Stunningly Saudi captures the Royal Saudi Air Force's Saudi Hawks mid-display, two green and white BAE Hawk jets crossing, each trailing a thick ribbon of green smoke.
This is an original Marqforde photograph, taken at the Royal International Air Tattoo, RAF Fairford, in 2023, when the team flew its display through rain and low cloud.
About the team
The Saudi Hawks were displaying in Bahrain by February 2000 and began regular European appearances in July 2011 at Air Power in Zeltweg, Austria. Their UK debut came at RIAT later that month, followed in 2012 by RAF Waddington and RNAS Yeovilton.
Former Red Arrows pilots have trained and supervised the team, which flies the first half of its show as one formation, then splits for opposing passes and crosses. Its signature is the palm tree and crossed swords of the national emblem, traced in smoke.
RIAT 2023 marked a century of air-to-air refuelling under the Sky Tanker theme, but wind and rain disrupted flying on the Friday and Saturday. The team needs about 8 km of visibility for its full routine and trains a flat show for low cloud.
