The Hawker Siddeley Kestrel is where modern V/STOL aviation truly began.

Born from the P.1127 lineage and powered by the Rolls-Royce Pegasus 5 vectored-thrust engine, just nine airframes were ever built. In 1965, British, American and West German pilots flew them together at RAF West Raynham as the Tripartite Evaluation Squadron, proving that fighter jets could lift straight off rough strips and forest clearings.

The Harrier, the Sea Harrier, the AV-8B Harrier II and ultimately the F-35B all trace their lineage back to this rare and remarkable aircraft.

A piece for enthusiasts who follow the deeper currents of British aviation engineering and respect the prototypes that quietly changed everything.
