This is an original Marqforde photograph, taken head-on as the superjumbo climbed away over the coast, its full wingspan and all four engines turned towards the camera.
About the aircraft
The A380 first flew from Toulouse on 27 April 2005 and entered service with Singapore Airlines in October 2007. Emirates had been the first airline to announce an order, at Farnborough in July 2000, and flew its first A380 service, to New York JFK, on 1 August 2008.
Airbus announced the end of production on 14 February 2019. The final airframe, MSN 272, drew a heart in the sky on a test flight from Hamburg on 13 December 2021 and was delivered as A6-EVS three days later, Emirates' 123rd A380 and nearly half of all deliveries.
Three-class Emirates A380s carry two first-class shower spas, each passenger allowed five minutes of running water and a heated floor. By January 2026 Emirates had 116 A380s, and in November 2025 it signed with Rolls-Royce to overhaul Trent 900 engines in-house from 2027.
