Amazing Al-Fursan captures the UAE national aerobatic team pulling out of a formation descent, seven jets trailing the red, green, white and black of the Emirates flag.
This is an original Marqforde photograph of Fursan Al Emarat, the Knights of the Emirates, one of the most colourful display teams on the airshow circuit.
About the team
Al Fursan was formed in 2010 and trained under the supervision of Italy's Frecce Tricolori at Rivolto Air Base, with eight UAE Air Force fighter pilots completing the course in early 2011. The team made its public debut at the Dubai Airshow in November 2011.
Seven jets fly in the display, one for each of the seven emirates. The black and gold scheme represents the desert and the oil beneath it, and smoke generators lay down red, white, black and green trails to match the national flag.
For well over a decade the team flew the Aermacchi MB-339NAT, the same type as its Italian mentors. A new Hongdu L-15 display was revealed at the Dubai Airshow in 2025 and made its UK debut at Farnborough in July 2026.
