Aerolegends Spitfire DB-E puts one of Britain's best-known two-seat Spitfires on the back of your phone.
This is a Marqforde photograph of NH341, the Castle Bromwich-built Mk IX flown today by Aero Legends, wearing the DB-E codes she carried over Normandy in 1944.
About the aircraft
NH341 was delivered on 28 April 1944 and joined No. 411 (Grizzly Bear) Squadron RCAF in June. Over 27 sorties she was flown by nine pilots and claimed two Bf 109s in two days, both to Flight Lieutenant Hugh Trainor near Caen on 29 and 30 June.
On 2 July Warrant Officer Jimmy Jeffrey was bounced by Fw 190s of JG 26. He baled out, evaded capture and rejoined the squadron in August.
After decades in Normandy museums, Historic Flying Ltd at Duxford rebuilt her as a two-seat T.9. She flew again in March 2017 and, named Elizabeth, now carries passengers from Headcorn in Kent.
