This is an original Marqforde photograph, taken as the jet came in over the Irish Sea to land at Dublin Airport.
About the aircraft
Aer Lingus flies the long-range versions of the A321neo, both powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines: the A321LR, with a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles, and the A321XLR, which stretches that by around 15 per cent to some 8,700 km.
Aer Lingus became the first International Airlines Group carrier to fly the A321LR when EI-LRA arrived from Hamburg in July 2019, opening the Dublin to Hartford route on 2 August. Airbus delivery delays that year forced the airline to lease 757s and postpone a planned Montreal service.
Two A321XLRs arrived in December 2024 and the sixth, EI-XLX, in January 2026, giving 14 long-range A321neos. For summer 2026 they flew 13 transatlantic routes: 11 from Dublin, plus Shannon to Boston and New York JFK, each jet with 16 flat-bed business seats.
