Shamrock Skies catches an Aer Lingus Airbus A330 on final approach as the sun goes down, gear and flaps out, landing lights burning, a bank of cloud lit orange and gold behind it.
This is an original Marqforde photograph taken in December 2023 as the widebody came in to land at the end of a transatlantic crossing. Winter sunsets are short; this one lasted long enough.
About the aircraft
The A330 is Airbus's twin-engine widebody for medium and long-haul routes. It first flew in 1992 and entered service in 1994, and Aer Lingus has flown the type across the Atlantic for decades, pairing it more recently with long-range A321neos on thinner routes.
