Kaleidoscope Knights catches Al Fursan at the top of a loop, seven jets holding a tight diamond while the smoke they have laid down curls back on itself in magenta, lime and amber, and a second trail cuts across the sky behind them.

This is an original Marqforde photograph of Fursan Al Emarat, the Knights of the Emirates, taken from the crowd line at the Royal International Air Tattoo, RAF Fairford. The warm golden light echoes the team's black and gold scheme.

About the team

Al Fursan was formed in 2010 and trained under the supervision of Italy's Frecce Tricolori at Rivolto Air Base, with eight UAE Air Force fighter pilots completing the course in early 2011. The team made its public debut at the Dubai Airshow in November 2011.

Seven jets fly in the display, one for each of the seven emirates. The black and gold scheme represents the desert and the oil beneath it, and smoke generators lay down red, white, black and green trails to match the national flag.

For well over a decade the team flew the Aermacchi MB-339NAT, the same type as its Italian mentors. A new Hongdu L-15 display was revealed at the Dubai Airshow in 2025 and made its UK debut at Farnborough in July 2026.
