Eagle Arc catches the Black Eagles at the top of a loop, eight black and yellow T-50Bs tucked into a tight formation while the white smoke they have drawn arcs over them and spills away down a deep blue sky.

This is an original Marqforde photograph of the Republic of Korea Air Force display team, taken from the crowd line as the whole team came over the top together, every jet in its slot.

About the team

Korea's air force display tradition began in 1953 with four P-51 Mustangs, followed by the Blue Sabres on F-86s. The Black Eagles name arrived with the F-5A in the late 1960s; the team stood down in 1978 and returned in 1994 on A-37B Dragonflies.

After a pause from late 2007, the team re-formed in 2009 on the KAI T-50, which went supersonic on 19 February 2003, the first supersonic aircraft designed in Korea. Ten T-50Bs were built for the team, their internal smoke tanks good for over twenty minutes.

On its first UK visit in 2012 the team won the Boeing Trophy at RAF Waddington, then both the King Hussein Memorial Sword and the As the Crow Flies Trophy at RIAT. Returning in 2022, it took the same two RIAT awards again.
